Journey Road Thursday

Destination:

Inspiration comes from the world around you, but if you are not in the world you will have nothing to inspire you. Community is a beautiful source of inspiration, especially when you find someone who encourages you to be the best you.
In our home we believe you are always in one of two states of a relationship. You are either being a friend or making a friend. Take this week to be a friend to someone you haven't really spoken to in a while.

Seriously, I can't believe how quickly a week passes by. Here I am at the end of a Thursday, wishing I had written this so much earlier...like yesterday! Anyway...

So an opportunity presented itself this week to touch base with a relatively new friend of mine, who is moving north. I realized on my way into church I might not get to see her before she left, which kind of bummed me out. In my musing, I realized that she has played an influential role in my new found love for working with children that are not mine! On top of that, she has this beautifully creative spirit that just takes your breath away and makes you feel so at peace when in her company.

It was a pleasant surprise when I saw that night at church. It was so great to be able to wish her well in this new adventure that awaits her. But the real gem, was her sharing a poem she wrote. The imagery and emotion was so beautiful. I realized in that moment, while I received a bit of her heart, of her, was how friends inspire one another.

I hope you had a chance to experience a friend's inspiration this past week. If not, I hope is suddenly surprises you as it did me this week.

be inspired, be inspiring

Journey Road Thursday

Destination:
Live intentionally this week. Meaning be present in every moment with every one you're spending time with. Savor the moments; don't let life just whiz by you.
What did you learn about your world that held a nugget of inspiration that you might not have seen?

Wow, I don't think I realized just how hard it can be living every moment intentionally. I think my biggest realization about this little journey was how easily life can side track you, and loving people is more than words of flattery.
So I actually did do this journey last week, but it was so challenging that I really wanted to take another week to try it as a do over.*smile* Last week, my husband was so busy with his company that I was left in a whirl wind of children and chores, some of which actually got done.  It was wonderful to be alone with my girls. I forgot how much I loved our time together. We took time to just play, dance and be silly. It was living in those moments that I now realize just how amazingly blessed my life is. My girls know they are loved, not because I tell them, but because I walk away from my chores or my computer or book to be with them.
Earlier this week I was able to spend time with one of my oldest girlfriends. It was so good to have her over and just hang, talking about everything and nothing in particular. As we were talking, I realized she had done for me, what I have done for my children...she chose to put aside leaving town early, so she could spend sometime with me! Oh the love!

Journey Road Thursday

Destination:
Find someone in your life who inspires you and tell them why/how you are inspired by their life.

So it's been a while since I could sit down and write anything, let alone accomplish my destination. It is amazing how easily life takes off on you like a spooked horse! (By the way, not a fun feeling) First my girls were sick, both are doing better, thank you. But My Girl has had a persistent cough, ugh! I've been giving her warm honey water, with a splash of lemon.

Well, when you have sick children, leaving the house isn't really an option. So I wasn't able to accomplish my destination last week, but I did this week. I realized that this was not a phone call kind of conversation, which is the other reason it had to wait. The really cool part was that I was able to tell my friend Rebecca publicly that she inspires me to live more boldly in my faith. I am amazed by her tenacity to love people. While I was talking about how she inspired me, I was also sharing how hard it is for my family right now; but that it is amazing how God is sustaining us through the trials of unemployment. By the time I finished talking, our friends came around us, prayed for us and emptied their pockets before us. My Hubby & I were in tears, and Rebecca was admonishing me for my vulnerability with them, that I inspired her through my openness.

I think my take away from this little task was how profound one life touches another. Truly, iron sharpens iron and we are better for it when we have people in our lives who inspire us to live life fully.

Project Run & Play-Boys Week

This will be the second season that I follow at Project Run & Play. I got so excited about the sew along that I planned out what I would do for all of the different themes. I loved the Remix June-Bug Dress, but time just seemed to escape me. So here I am, mother of 2 GIRLS, creating a little something for BOYS WEEK.

When I think boys, I think Star Wars. Maybe it is because my husband, all his friends, and all their sons love Star Wars. So I made a Star Wars Shirt. I still pretty new at sewing, so trusting in my ability to get a shirt made by me was a little unrealistic, so I bought a shirt at Wal-Mart and focused on creating my Lego Star Wars appliques.

I drew a sketch of what my characters should roughly look like on paper, then I created and cut out templates to use on felt. I then applied the felt to my shirt with fabric glue. To add another dimension, and because boys are just hard on clothing, I sewed each piece as well. Finally I create a paper stencil for the wording. Painting words is way harder than it looks. I went over each letter with a fabric pen so you could read it.

While the Yoda and Darth turned out great, the words were my down fall (not as cool as I had imagined it.)

Journey Road Thursday

Sorry this is coming out so late today, my girls have been sick the past few days.

Destination:

What does it mean to be inspired? Describe how do you know some one or something has inspired you?
To be inspired is that feeling of seeing something you have never seen before and/or to see something you have seen a million times but see it as though it were the first time. It is comprised of deep compassion, encouragment from a place of expertise, and a bit of challenge to your pride. When I feel inspired, truly inspired, I am overcome with a sense of longing. I want what he/she has (I don't mean this as coveting or jelousy, but a desire to want change in my life).

I realized that when I am feeling disstatisfied with my life, it is usually because there is someone who is living an inspireed life in front of me. There is a pastor in my church whose life, the choices she makes, the things she does, the scarfices she makes-inspire me, encourage me, challenge me to live a life beyond myself.

If I leave it there at just feeling inspired by her, I belive I will miss out on the goodness that God has for me. I believe he brings people into our lives to inspire us to greatness. It is the principle of iron sharpens iron. We are meant to live in community, with other people, with them in our lives and us in theirs. Not that wanting time to yourself is bad, but withdrawing to the point of exclusion creates a black hole in our hearts and minds. There is a movie, Meet the Robinson's, where the bumbling villian's, Goob, backstory is told. He chose to not see the people who wanted to be a part of his life and focused on one bad incidnet and let it fester. His choices led him down a path that really wasn't true to who her was or what he ever wanted for his life. The same can become true for us, if we allow ourselves to withdraw from others involvement in our lives.

Journey Road Thursday

Destination:

So the New Year is just around the corner, and now is a great time to reflect on 2011. Was there any event in your life, or just in general that inspired you last year? How did it change you or did it encourage you to do something?

2011 was a year of change for my family and me. Early in the year my husband was released from a job he had had for 11 years. While it was difficult, it was a much needed end. Since then he started a business, which before the end of the year became profitable. It has been inspiring watching him create a business from an idea that was birthed from a passion in his heart.

I began running seriouly this year, and completed 2 half marathons. Honestly I  started running because a friend of mine did. She may not always see herself as one, but she is an inspiration to those who know her. She is a survivor, a pillar of friendship, a woman of courage, and a treasure trove of knowledge.

I'm not sure what the future holds, but I know where I've been. This year is going to be inspiring, beacuse it is filled with opportunity.

Beautiful Favorites...websites

I was invited to join the most fun website....

There are so many great ideas our there for DIY projects, home decor, fashion, food, party decorations, etc, that my favorites folders are becoming just a little confusing with folders within folders that I can't believe I lived without pinterest.

How it works. First you have to be invited or ask for an inviation. Then you add a little button to your favorites bar and begin pinning.

Think of it like a giant cork board where you can take a picture of anything, and organize it into neat little categories. But the other wonderful part is your ability to see all your friends cork boards with their ideas and how they organize their favorites. It like having your own research team. HA! Okay explaining it is a little harder than acctually doing it.

I have been using it to identify some ideas for a princess tea party theme birthday party for My Girl.  Here are a few images I grab for my princess party board:
